Repeatedly in scripture we hear the words, usually from the mouths of angels, "Fear not." From Esther and Judith, Samuel and Peter, to the cowardly lion in The Wizard of Oz, courage is a spiritual virtue and practice that some seem to easily possess and many seem to longingly seek. Using scripture, prayer, poetry and silence, this retreat day centers around roping our fears and replacing them with peace, passion, and possibility.
The Rev. Jeanne Finan serves as the rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Asheville. She also leads retreats and offers spiritual direction. She is the author of Remember Your Baptism: Ten Meditations (Cowley Publications).
