The Advent readings from the prophets deliver some amazing promises, all of which point to our being gathered up and delivered home. During this year's Advent retreat, we will reflect on the meaning of these promises – to be gathered up and to be delivered home – as they dwell in the Word and in the sanctuary of our own hearts.

Each day follows a rhythm of quiet, worship and discussion, from early morning to evening, with all sessions being optional. Some participants use the time as a silent retreat; most enjoy the companionship and conversation of others. The hope is to invite people into quiet, prayer and community, in a season of watching and waiting for the new thing that God is doing.

The facilities and grounds of Valle Crucis will be available for retreatants' use, including our two labyrinths and outdoor hiking trails, and each person will have a single room with private bath. The facilitator for this retreat will be the Rev. Susan Sherard, the founding rector of Holy Spirit Church in Mars Hill NC. Susan, a much sought after leader for retreats around the country, now makes her home in the Diocese of North Carolina. This retreat is open to lay and clergy and simple meals will be provided. This program sold out quickly in 2005 so we would recommend early registration.
