- Discernment is a word often used in our churches, in spiritual direction and in the ordination process but many people do not understand what discernment is and its importance in our lives. Discernment is a crucial part of any decision we make and can become a way of life for us and for our parishes. The discernment process can help us become clearer about a variety of choices before us. It is a way to discover our gifts, to help in making difficult decisions, in seeking clarity, in search processes and in a myriad of other ways. Discernment can help us see the next steps God desires for us.
